House of Eights is producing a dance showcase in December 2021 in Halifax, and we want to share the stage with you! We are inviting submissions through this Open Call to provide opportunity for emerging artists to share their choreographic work on stage. These submissions will be performed as part of our Performance Program showcase, alongside pieces choreographed by House of Eights faculty and performed by students enrolled in our Performance Programs.
We will be selecting a small number of submission pieces to perform at our term-end showcase, to be performed along with our Performance Program pieces.
Our choreography showcase will be on Friday December 10, at 9 PM for approximately 1 hour.
All performers must be available for the showcase as well as the tech rehearsal on the same date, which will run from approximately 5:15 PM – 8 PM.
Showcase will be held at Spatz Theatre in downtown Halifax.
Submissions must be performance ready, or nearly performance-ready (with limited additional rehearsal needed).
Submissions must be between 2 – 6 minutes in duration.
Submission pieces can be solos, duos, or groups up to 15 people.
Dancers in submission pieces must be at least 16 years of age (exemptions maybe made by Studio Director).
You do not need to be in your full and final costume/outfit in your submission video, however, if you are using any props for your piece, please include them in your submission video.
We will be prioritizing submissions by emerging artists (choreographers under 30 years of age).
We encourage submissions from students in our Performance Programs, as well as the wider dance community of Nova Scotia.
We welcome pieces from any genre of dance.

Submission Pieces are due by midnight, Sunday November 14 by completing the form below. Acceptances to be sent out by Tuesday November 16.
If accepted, your music file and lighting cue sheet will be due by Sunday November 21. We will send you a lighting cue sheet template to fill upon acceptance.
