House of Eights is a dance studio in the heart of downtown Halifax, and our three studios are available to rent by the hour, seven days a week, daytime and evening.
All kinds of people make things here. Teachers run their own classes and workshops. Productions and companies rehearse. Photographers and filmmakers shoot. Hosts throw socials, auditions, battles, pop-ups, and fundraisers. If you have an idea that needs a room, we would love to hear it.
Every studio has mirrors, professional lighting, a sound system with Bluetooth, and tall industrial ceilings, plus a spacious lobby and changing rooms. Our front desk is staffed during regular studio hours, and rentals outside those hours work too: when you book, we send you a guide to entering the building and the studio, with detailed notes on using the space.
Three rooms, each with its own character. Rates depend on the studio and the size of your group.

Rates are per hour, plus HST, and studios rent in one-hour blocks. Full payment when you book is what reserves your time. Staff, monthly members, and program students get 10% off, and so does anyone booking 4 or more hours at once. Planning a full day or a multi-day production? Every rental is confirmed personally by our team. Here is how it goes.
Fill out the rental request form: what you are planning, your group size, and the dates and times you want. Requests need at least 48 hours notice. Need something sooner? Email us and we will check for last minute availability.
Our team replies with availability, confirms your studio and your rate, and sorts out anything you need, from tables and chairs to special footwear on our floors.
Full payment locks in your time, by credit card or e-transfer. Then we email your entry guide: everything you need to get into the building and run the space. Check your inbox and make sure you have it before the day of your rental, so you walk in prepared.

Rental requests need at least 48 hours notice, and popular evening slots go quickly, so the earlier the better. If you need something urgent, email [email protected] and we will check for last minute availability. Email is the fastest way to reach us: we check it throughout the day, even when nobody is at the front desk.
Yes. Productions and events sometimes take a studio for a full weekday, or for several days in a row. Email [email protected] with your dates and we will put together full day rates for you.
After you book, we email you an entry guide: how to get into the building and the studio, plus detailed notes on using the space. Our front desk is staffed during regular studio hours, but plenty of rentals happen outside them, and the guide is how you let yourself in.
Please check your email and make sure you have the guide before the day of your rental. If you cannot find it, email [email protected] and we will send it again.
Yes. Getting to the studio from the entrance takes a short flight of stairs down, an elevator up, and a short walk down the hall. The flight of stairs has a wheelchair lift, and we have an accessible all-gender washroom.
Hosting an event? Let us know in the request form if any of your guests need step-free access and we will make sure everyone gets in comfortably. Any questions about access, email [email protected].
Two kinds. Staff, monthly members, and program students get 10% off rental fees. And anyone who books and pays for 4 or more hours at a time gets 10% off, which regular renters use all the time.
Cancel or reschedule more than 48 hours ahead and there is no charge. Inside 48 hours, bookings are final sale and cannot be refunded, unless the cancellation is due to unforeseen circumstances like weather or closures.
Renting the same slot every week? We keep a credit card on file and process payments on the 1st and the 15th of each month, each payment covering the rentals booked up to the next payment date. Any extra hours you add between payments are paid when you request them.
If a payment is declined after three attempts, future bookings are cancelled until payment is received.
Every studio comes with a sound system and professional lighting. We also have folding tables and chairs in limited quantity, by request. List what you need in the rental request form and we will confirm what we can provide.
Usually, yes. Tell us in the request form about any special footwear, like heels, tap shoes, or pointe shoes, and any instruments, like drums or a piano, so we can match you with the right studio and floor.
Yes: register an account on our website and save a credit card to it. Payment is what reserves your time, so having your account ready makes the whole process faster.
