PERFORMANCE TRAINING PROGRAM
In addition to drop-in classes, House of Eights offers a performance training program that focuses on providing dancers with well-rounded training in a variety of styles to prepare them for commercial dance opportunities and performances.
This is for the student looking for the opportunity to perform, for consistent training beyond our drop-in classes to enhance their skills as a dancer and performer, and to join a welcoming dance family. This non-competitive training program consists of three levels: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced – dance experience is required. This program values diversity and what you have to offer as a unique individual. We are looking to bring out the best in each dancer in their unique style.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Dancers in the program will focus on skill building and technical dance training during the first term in styles that will make them stronger and well-rounded commercial dancers, such as Hip Hop, Popping, Waacking, House, Contemporary, Jazz, Heels, and more. Dancers will then focus on learning choreography during the second term from rotating instructors in a variety of commercial styles to perform in our year-end showcase.
Rehearsals once a week
Beginner and Intermediate sessions on Sunday evenings (starting Sep 13). Advanced sessions on Thursday evenings (starting Sep 10).
Commitment period: September – December 2020 and January – April 2021.
Train in multiple commercial styles
Learn choreography from our faculty of diverse commercial-style instructors in Hip Hop, Popping, Waacking, House, Contemporary, Jazz, and Heels, plus group seminars for all levels (One Saturday per month).
Meetings at the beginning and end of each term with the program directors for individualized feedback and goal setting.
Photoshoots and concept videos, as well as a year-end showcase. Learn group routines in Hip Hop and Jazz Funk/Fusion over the Winter term, plus your choice of a stream to focus on for a small group piece (Heels or Contemporary).
Covid-19 & Our Year-End Showcase
Each training program group will have a maximum of 10 students to allow us to train safely while staying within the mandated health and safety regulations.
The uncertainty within the dance world is a large problem we are all facing right now. Our goal moving forward will be to continue holding training and performance opportunities no matter the circumstances and we will be doing so by providing 2 options:
PLAN A: IN-PERSON
Audience attendance will be limited and we will be working with our venue to implement the proper health procedures and guidelines to offer the safest environment for our dancers and attendees based on government health recommendations.
PLAN B: VIRTUAL
Each piece will be performed and recorded as group performance videos, then streamed as a live virtual showcase.
